Teaching

Courses, seminars, and field-based teaching across architectural history and research.

My teaching begins with close observation and develops through discussion, interpretation, and making. I am interested in how students come to notice what is easy to overlook in a building, a drawing, or a text, and in helping them turn those observations into writing, drawing, conversation, and other forms of visual or spatial thinking. Across seminars, history courses, and field visits, these different modes of inquiry give students multiple ways to develop and communicate architectural understanding.

ARCH 601

Research Methods

Role
Teaching Assistant
Institution
College of Architecture, IIT
Term
2024
Level
Graduate seminar

In this graduate seminar, students examined how architectural questions are translated into research questions, methods, and forms of inquiry. I facilitated seminar discussions, contributed to course materials and assignments, mentored students as they connected research to design practice, and helped coordinate visiting speakers.

02

ARCH 500

Global Modernism

Role
Teaching Assistant
Institution
College of Architecture, IIT
Term
2023–2024

Students developed architectural arguments through research, writing, presentations, and visual analysis. I provided feedback on their research, written work, and visual communication, and facilitated class discussions that helped students connect close observation of buildings and images to broader historical interpretations and communicate those arguments clearly.

History of World Architecture II

Role
Teaching Assistant
Institution
Department of Humanities, IIT
Term
2023
Level
Undergraduate

Each week, I led a one-hour discussion section that moved from a short framing explanation into group discussion and visual exercises. Through drawing and sketching, I guided students in looking closely at the week’s architectural material and translating their observations into visual form.

04

ARCH 445 / LA 497

The Prairie School

Role
Teaching Assistant
Institution
College of Architecture, IIT
Term
2022
Level
Cross-listed, architecture and landscape

Field visits across Chicago made direct observation central to how students studied Prairie School architecture and landscape. I helped coordinate the visits and collaboratively prepare course materials, guided on-site observation and sketching, and supported students as they developed assignments, presentations, and folios from the field-based work.
