Reclaiming TOKİ: Transforming Social Housing in Turkey
Developed as my MSc thesis at Politecnico di Milano, Reclaiming TOKİ examined how existing social housing environments in Turkey could be transformed by responding more closely to their socio-cultural and physical conditions. The project followed a three-part methodology: analysis across four scales to identify problems and possible levels of intervention; a pilot project to test design strategies; and a toolkit that translated those strategies into adaptable tools for different TOKİ settlements. Moving between analysis and design, the thesis used the pilot project not as an isolated proposal, but as a way to develop a broader system for rethinking existing housing environments.
